A notice to chriZs pictures:
What you see on these pictures is always the display in night mode. I day mode, the baggroud is enlighted and the signs on the display are black.

Yepp,
that's true, you can set the display to auto, day or night-mode. I prefer night-mode as can be seen on the pictures.
You also can switch the compass off or watch your current location (streetname, city) while not being navigated.
I have no additional screen attached to the unit, so no video playback can be shown. -

@supertuxI took some pictures of the unit built into my GolfV and uploaded them to:
http://www.parallelraum.de/jvc/
The Frame is the original VW-Frame and the GPS-Receiver is installed invisible somewhere in the Dashboard (it works very good) .As you may see on the pictures, the colors match good to the Golf-colors. You may also notice the little bit too bright white buttons when its dark.
Up to now, I would buy this device again, playing MP3-DVDs while navigating whole europe from the Harddisk works very good and was exactly what I was looking for. Anyone who wants to buy my now retired iPod?

Thanks for showing the pictures! Indeed the colors match good, only the white buttons should have an other colour! Thanks for your support here everyone, i'm gonna buy this system and in a week or two, when my golf arrives it will be built-in! Then i will write down my experiences here!

Also another question, how is the tmc function working? IS it okay?
-
In german there is a strange translation of the beginning and the end of a traffic jam. but genereally, it is working good, it sends you off the motorway before the traffic jam and back on the motorway lateron.... and you can have a closer look to all trafficjams your radio received...
-
okay, thats nice, and is it reporting speed cam's also?
-
as far as i know, it is not reporting them. Is there a dataset in TMV reporting Speed-cams?
Also the JVC does not know the speed-limit, as Becker for example does....
-
aha, well, i think it is sended via TMC because other systems (here in holland) like avic x1r can show speedcam's on the map. And what is stored in that 14GB of data on the HDD of the unit? Normal other units have only 4,7 gb(1 dvd) of space to use..
-
1 DVD is not 4,7 Gig. Most Systems use dual-layer discs. And this is around 9 Gig.
The JVC has 14 Gig for navigation data. But at the begining, there are only 7 Gig used. The other 7 are reserved for later updates.
-
And to tell you: there is no map - there are just those arrows with next and next turns (the next one, and the one afgterwards) - but even if you connect a screen to the device to view dvd, they will not show you a map....

Hallo!
