    danke

  • Dear CdRsKuLL,

using Babel Fish is, at least in this case, an almost useless idea - it's almost impossible to understand the resulting german text.

Despite the fact, that this is a german board, I'd like to suggest, that you post your request in english once again.

I'm rather interested in what you're doing and in my opinion, this might apply to other's too.

    Regards,

    Andreas

  • danke

    I will try again :)

I am writing a application that uses the D3 SDK, which will allow you to use D3 PDA maps on the PC. It uses most of the same files which are found on the PDA version. My problem being is that the sdk favorites wasnt made to deal with the amount of points as I require to hold all the speedcams in the uk (over 6000 of them). It takes far to long to load a cvs file into a dat file using the SDK and also takes ages to remove a camera from the dat file. I would like to take control of this dat file myself, simply loading it into an array at the start and then adding / removing / importing new cameras into it.

The reason i have to use this dat file and not just one I created on my own is that its needed to show icons on the map of where the cameras are positioned.

At the moment I am working from my own dat file, only importing through the sdk cameras with a 10km range into the Dat file used by D3. This would all be solved if I could figure out how to read and write a d3 dat file.

thanks for answering my post, was unsure if anyone would be able to help

    thanks

if you want to download the last release without joining my website (need to register) you can grab it HERE

after the install, just overwrite the freedrive.exe with this update that fixs afew problems..

  • Welcome to the board,

did you ever tried this one?

Should solve your problems...have a look to the 'anleitung.txt' and you'll find an explanation of the file. I'm sure you'll understand what's all about.

  • Hello cdrskull,

just to throw my 0.02 in, i am the writer of the POICON162 wich was pointed out in the previous post.

POICON ist just a converter between *.ASC, *.DAT and *.CSV with lttle additional fuctions.

I would additionally recommend you have a look on the program POIVIEW, which can be grabbed on
    http://www.bluescreen.de/poiview/de/download.html

the site is in german, but english operation instructions are available.

POIVIE can load POI and and can show them on a map, being able do regionally delet,e, sort, find duplicates and more.

    hope that helps.

  • Hi I2C, yes I have downloaded your program, and it works great. What I want to be able to do inside FreeDrive is to be able to import cvs files, and also alter the DAT file on the fly, add / remove etc. I just downloaded that POIView, but when I run it, it says that it has expired. I have only been coding since christmas so binary files are new to me. What I have been trying to do is open the dat file and read the format into an array. Do you first open the date file and load everything into a string first ? then seperate them out ? or do you load each value into an array ? One I understand how to read/write the dat file everything else becomes easy. Is your program wrote in VB or something else ?

Sorry for all the questions, but I've been playing with the binary files now for over 3 weeks with no luck :(

below is how I'm using my own dat files, I have played around changing things but still not figured it out

    Public Type Speedcamdat
    name As String
    Long As String
    Lat As String
    End Type

    Dim camitem() As Speedcamdat

Open App.Path & "\cams.dat" For Binary Access Read Lock Read Write As #55
Get #55, , lCount 'Icount holds number of records
    Debug.Print lCount
ReDim camitem(lCount) 'redim the array to the number of records held
For counter = 1 To lCount
Get #55, , camitem(counter - 1) ' fill the array with the cam data stored
    Next counter
    Close #55

    any pointer would help loads...

    thanks

  • Hi Steve,

    just a question....

What version of Destinator and what version of the SDK are you using?

    Regards

    Andreas

  • I'm using the last free one they gave out. They are now charging for there SDK. I assume its because of projects like this. If you download FreeDrive its included with it, all you would need is the help file and a couple of examples to get you started. Let me know if you need these.

To load you map for your country you would need to create a folder in C:\DestinatorApps\Destinator and drop the map into this folder. If you have alook how the London one is made up, then just follow that as an example. The maps are on your D3 PDA CD. Then start up FreeDrive and tap (or click) the screen and click on the next then switch map.. If you want a picture of your map to appear rather than the NA one, then just stick a jpeg of you map in the C:\Program Files\FreeDrive\mappictures folder called the same name as the folder that holds the map details. (the one you created before to copy the map into)

I started this project because there is no decent gps programs for the PC that are touchscreen friendly. As I have installed a 7 inch touchscreen in my car with is what i'm using.

let me know if you need anything

    cheers

  • I have just noticed that FreeDrive may not run in your country, this depends on how windows is set with its decimal point. If you use "," and not "." then it will error on start up. I will be sorting this problem out in the next week or so, but if you would still like to test it you can simple change these settings in windows..

If I remember rightly you need to first open your control panel, choose 'Regional and Language Options'.. then on that page click customise.. There you should be able to change your decimal symbol from , to . You can always change it back after

Have a look at this post confirming this.

    thanks

  • Cdrskull,

i will answer in detail today evenig via mail.

  • @CdRsKuLL,

i did sent a bunch of material - did you get it?

  • Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.. Yes thanks. The information you sent me helped me loads. I have now managed to build in a csv to dat convertor that allows me to control the dat file.

Really sorry I havent got back to you sooner, I had a system crash and lost all my recent emails and favorites. I just spent 30 mins finding this post again to let you know how I got on.

If you still want a copy of the sdk then drop me a mail and I will send it you. I have now just released a new FreeDrive version (0.70) which have the speedcams built in. You can grab it from www.freedrive.co.uk

Thanks again for the information and let me know if I can help you in anyway.

    thanks
