Unlock Lucca 3.4 (Eng?German)

  • Can anyone help. I am trying to unlock the Lucca 3.4 but I cannot understand all the german. I can understand that you change the Update (which Version) and what goes where?. I use a translater program but sometimes it produces rubbish.

I will try this request in German forgive me, but I try.

Dose jedermann Hilfe.

  • I am not sure what you need to unlock, as there is nothing to unlock.
    However:
if you start the Lucca (at least without any SD-Card insert) the first screen you see is for "drive safly instruction" > Press OK (I think you got this on your own as there is no different option:))
On the next screen press "Navigation" (middle-top located)
Within the Navigation-menu click on "Einstellungen" (button on the bottom right side with the two gearwheels in it).
Press "Sprache" (item on the top)
Press on "Sprache: Deutsch" > Select English or US English as preferred:)
    Press OK
    Press Navigation again

    PS: regarding Software-Update:
Download from: http://www.blaupunkt.com/de/downloads_3_8.asp check the type number on the lable of the back site of your Lucca - it is crucial that you download/use the files for your Lucca-type number
    Use a FAT32 formatted SD-Card (PDF instruction claim 256MB require, I am sure I used a 128MB card).
Extract the content of the update ZIP-File to the card that the content looks like shown in the instruction manual http://www.blaupunkt.com/de/do…luccasoft_34_os112_de.pdf
Use external power supply (12 Volt car-adapter or power suppy to connect it to mains)
Switch Lucca off by pressing the Power button for at least 4 seconds
Insert SD Card with update files
Press the MENU button, keep it pressed and switch the Lucca on by the Power button in addtion. Keep the Menu button pressed until you see "ROM UPDATE" on the screen (than you can release the Menu button)
You should get a screen showing the progress of the update
After about 7 mminutes you get a request shown on the screen "YES/NO" >> Press YES :)
You get a progress bar - should take about 2 minutes
When the update is finished you get the first screen after a default start where you have to press OK
    Remove the SD-Card
If nothing happens after the "first update" (the one that takes about 7 minutes) wait for some additional (5-6) minutes.
If still nothing happens switch the Lucca of using the Power button for at least 4 seconds.
Switch the Lucca on again without pressing the Menu-button and wait for the screen with the request for YES or NO
Press YES - (only if the ROM Update has been performed)
If the update does not start at all after you insert the SD-Card and switch on the Lucca while pressing the Menu button and the Lucca starts normal, reformat the SD-Card in FAT32 format.
If still nothing happens try a different SD-Card
If you forgot to remove the SD-Card and the update starts again do not remove the card until the routine has finished - I did this once (as I believed the updated was already on the card) and need to send my Lucca back for repair:(

Thank you for your reply, In trying to keep my explanation short It would appear I have not explained myself properly. By unlock I meant that I wanted to enter the CE windows operating system so that I can add and customise the Lucca with other programs.

So I wish to improve and add to its functions. I have seen Markus1009s Theme, but I cannot follow the explanation in German and I fear I will destroy the Lucca Rom If I miss something vital.

So can you (or anyone) help, your English is very good.

    Thankyou again AshBash

  • Hi Ashbash,

should also be no problem to get into the WindowsCE of the Lucca.
You can use the latest Lucca-update, download the files for your Lucca as described in my last posting.
Extract it to the local folder on your computer or directly to an SD-card.
Rename the file Lucca.exe in the subfolder Lucca of the update package.
Download the "Total Commander for Lucca Navigator" -> http://forum.pocketnavigation.…20%20attachmentid=1032320 as described in the thread http://forum.pocketnavigation.de/tid1071064-sid.htm
Extract the content of the Total-Commander zip-file to the Lucca-subfolder of original Blaupunkt Lucca update package. This will overwrite the Lucca.exe (if you have not renamed it before) and also the gpstmc.dll.
So I think its the best to rename the original "Blaupunkt lucca.exe" before extracting the Total-Commander to the Lucca folder of the update, I named it lucca.ex-e and left it on the SD-card and found it also in the Flash-memory of the Lucca after performing the update.
Because the gpstmc.dll included in the Total Commander package shows a higher version number in the file properties and because its also no problem to run the Navigator functions with this gpstmc.dll including the TMC reception, I see no reason to keep the gpstmc.dll delivered with the Blaupunkt update.
If you have already run the ROM-update of the original Blaupunkt Lucca update before, I think you can skip this part. Simply switch the Lucca on while the SD-card with the modified update package is the Navigator but do not press the Menu-button.
You will get the question YES/NO for installing the update, press YES to get it installed (this will only perform the 2nd, short update part as described in my former message, the one that will take about 2 minutes).
After restarting the Lucca you will get into the Total Commander when you press "Navigation" giving you access to the files of the Flash Memory.
Go to the Windows-folder of the Flash memory on the Lucca where you will find the ChangeUSB.exe > with this application you can re-enable access to the internal Flash-drive from your PC via USB. I am not sure, but I have heard ActiveSync function is no longer possible. Dont know, does not need it, never activated it myself).
At the end thats all what I want and what I have done.
I restarted the Lucca connected to the USB port of my PC and got access to the Flash-Memory. I renamed the lucca.exe file (the lucca.exe file that is in fact the Total Commander executable). As mentioned the original lucca.ex-e file has been copied in the Flash memory during the update as well, so rename it back to the correct name lucca.exe. If the file is missing you can also copy it via USB from your PC to the Flash-memory of the Lucca
Now your Lucca is working normal again + you have access to the internal Flash from your PC via USB.
I have not run the further steps, but it should be no problem to:
Copy the Explorer.exe from the Windows-folder of the Lucca-Flash to the same location were you find the DNPicViewer.exe. I do not remember exactly, but I am sure you will find no "Source" folder within the Flash-memory of the Lucca, even if the update package include this folder. I think the files from the Source-folder are stored directly in the root of the Flash-memory drive.
Rename the original DNPicViewer.exe to anything else and rename the copy of the Explorer.exe to DNPicViewer.exe > than you have an Explorer when accessing the Picture Viewer of your Lucca.
If you copy the content of the Total-Commander package to the location of the DNPicViewer.exe you can also rename the Total Commander executable (which is already named lucca.exe in the zip-file) to DNPicViewer what starts the Total Commander if you access the Picture Viewer from the Lucca menu.
There is also an "update" available that replace the original Main-menu of the Lucca with its 3 options (Navigation, PictureViewer and MP3-Player) with a menu that gives you the option to run the WindowsCE-Explorer, Total-Commander, TMC-Player and also the original Lucca functions of course. But I have not tested it yet. I was only interested in accessing the Flash-memory from my PC. But if I need to do something within the Windows CE of the Lucca, I rename the DNPicViewer.exe temporarily and replace it with the WindowsCE-Explorer.exe what can be done via USB-connection from the PC and the next time I start the Lucca I have the Windows Explorer available instead of the Picture Viewer. And when I am ready I restore the original DNPicViewer.exe via USB-connection from my PC

A thousand Thank you's. Thas brilliant.

    Just a couple of questions.

From what you say the total comander starts when you press Navigation does it come up in English? As I noticed that there was a language file Magyer which I believe is Hungarian included in the Zip as well as arm. sh3.4 and mip versions of the Total-Comander, but if from what you say I can delete them afterwoods? that will be ok. I just dont want the Lucca to come up in a language I can't understand, so if it does I should delete it from the zip before.

When you look at it via USB from the PC do you see the Windows folder. If so does it include folders desktop, program, startup etc. and can you get at the control panel. Or maybe you can see the whole machine from Total- Comander!

Sorry thats more than two questions

dankeschön, Thank you again for all your Help.

    AshBash

  • Hi,

the Total Commander is unchangable in english (or require additional language files) and as far as I know it need all the files which come included in the zip-file. Because I already ruined a Lucca and need to send it in for maintenance, I am not playing around to end up with a stuck Lucca that does not start up again.
The WindowsCE-Explorer and the Control Panel of the Windowws CE is in german on my Lucca "D-A-CH" (German-Austria-Switzerland model) but I dont think it will be different on other localized Lucca modells as the Windows CE is not available for customers by design, I dont believe Blaupunkt will add additional language support.
Via USB connection from your PC/Windows-XP you have access to the SD-card of course and also to the "My Flash disk" partition - the partition that stores the files from the "2nd update", the "2 minute update" and you are able to move/copy/modify files permanently.
In addition I have a "removable disk" shown in Windows-XP-Explorer that has 0 bytes and is inaccessable - that should be the partition which include the Windows-folder.
The Windows folder has a Desktop subfolder and its also possible to work in that directories, however, the Windows-folder is only virtually created during startup of the Lucca what means that every change in the Windows folder and system settings get lost after completly shut down (what will happen if you press the Power button for at least 4 seconds or wait until the battery is empty). There are ways to make changes permanently but you should be aware that this can easily harm you Lucca.
As far as I remember there is also a taskbar-application available but with the latest Lucca-update I was not able to access the Windows-CE Desktop-view anymore. As I explained I only managed to start the Total Commander or the Windows Explorer and from this applications you can start other tasks of course, but I have no Windows CE Desktop available.
Perhaps explain what you want to do within the WindowsCE of your Lucca
PS: thinking about system setting changes: there are some changes that are stored, for example adding you personal information to the Windows CE settings or enabling the USB drive access to the Flash. But some other settings like modifying the memory usage are reset after a complete shutdown of the Lucca.

Hi again. So what you are saying is that It starts in Total-Comander in English. You can get Windows CE-Explorer and the Control Panel in German.

    Question Where are they located?

You say you have lost a Lucca How was that during an update? This of course is the very reason I am being so careful before I update mine. Can you update with the same update again?

You also say in the latest update it has lost the Desktop. Do you have copies of the previous update by any chance.

It is obvious Blaupunkt want to keep this a closed box as they have defeated active sync which would allow you entrance to the Windows partition and the registry which is why I guess your dead Lucca has gone dead. If I can recover that I guess we can recover the broken lucca.

So many questions for you, I hope you dont mind?

    Thanks for all your help.

  • If you are in the Windows-CE Explorer, or Total Commander, you have a Windows-Folder available, also Anwendungsdaten (simmilar to Application Data), and Fonts and 1-2 additional folders. This folders (usual yellow folders symbol) are shown besite the "drive" My Flash" (or something simmilar) which contain for example the DNPicViewer-file (and all other files from the Source-folder of the update-package) and the Lucca-folder from the update-package. Also you have the "drive" called SMM (I think it was, or perhaps SMMC) what is the SD-card. The "drives" are listed with the usual drive-icon of Windows. So looks a little bid strange to see folders directly besite the drive-icons but as I said, the Windows-folder for example is "no real folder". It contains the Windows CE files which are also not shown in the update package as it is one of the ROM files and these are created new every time you boot your Lucca.
    -
I have not killed my Lucca 3.4 but a former version, a Lucca without any additional branding, you might say "first generation of Lucca". I was playing to add radar-warning messages via POIs and used a spanish version of the software. For this "first generation Luccas" you need to install additional files not so easy as it is with the Lucca 3.x. However, installation failed because some files are missing or not found and at the end my Lucca was working, except there was no GPS-reception anymore:(
Even if I was able to install the complete software-update for the Lucca, ROM-files and the Lucca application, successfull it has not solved the problem as not all settings are resetted to defaults. And while playing I left the SD-card with the software-update in the slot while starting the Lucca (normal start without pressing buttons to run a ROM-update) what result in copying the Lucca-files (you might compare it to the "2nd update part" of the Lucca 3.4 which takes about 2 minutes and which starts on the old Lucca without any request to press YES/NO). To solve time (I have already installed the files several times before already without solving the GPS-reception problem) I removed the SD-card what ends in an error during update (as expected). But unfortunatelly it was not OK by switching the Lucca off and on again, as it shows directly a message about selecting update files, but no option available to select anything. I was still able to run the ROM-update at that point, but this still ends in the "select update file" message (without any working option to select anything).
I take a look inside: the flashs-roms are soldered in and I have no devices for SMD-soldering to remove the files and program them external in a programmer. I am not sure how the problem was solved by Blaupunkt support. At least I got the Lucca back in working condition again with all files on it including the files for the radar-warner that I tried to install.
Blaupunkt demand about 150 Euro for the job, after complaining I received a bill of about 60 Euro. I have not reopened the old Lucca but I dont think they had to remove the flash-roms for external programming. I believe with the correct device and keyboard on the USB- or SD-card port you will be able to install the missing files.
So be carefull while playing with the Lucca. If the device got stuck somehow because of missing files or whatever it is for sure not a "simply run the software update again and restore the defaults" !

PS: I dont see any advantage in using ActiveSync instead of USB-access to the Flash-rom-drive. At the end, even withut a Desktop-view of the Windows CE you are able to run programms and installations. But the WindowsCE itself seems to be part of the BIN-files you find in the update-package. It is possible to get the Lucca to save some settings, for example enabling USB-access to the internal drive/flash-rom, but I dont think you have more functionality using ActiveSync.

  • Thank you again all the information you have supplied is given me more understanding of its inner workings.

Active sync is Microsofts system to allow communications to PPC and CE devices and it allows the view not only of the Flashrom (disk) but also the whole PPC/CE device which includes the Windows directory in Rom. Also with programs like CeRegEditor you can also view the registry. The registry is Microsofts directory of where programs are placed in the machine where to find all the modules to run a program even the way the machine wakes up. So if the registry gets damaged it can result in the machine waking up and crashing.

However having Active sync allows you to see the machine inner workings where a limited usb connection only allows you to see the Flash disk or the SD/MMC card.

With you original Lucca it may be that not all the code was loaded or maybe a flag is set in the registry when the upgrade should have finished. Their must be a way for Blaupunkt to connect to the machine and re install the system. If you had not had the Lucca repaired I was going to suggest that you try the recovery directory on the DVD that came with the Lucca I noticed that it had an Install program which is not found in the updates. Maybe this can sort out a dead Lucca.

Was this original Lucca the Lucca later to be the Lucca MP3 ?

Did you say that the version of the Lucca 3.4 software allowed you originally to have active sync?

    Thanks again AshBash.

  • Hi,

of course I know what the registry is for and as I mentioned there are ways to modify settings permanently, but I have not tried any of these programs.
You might try to enable ActiveSyn support, I am not sure if it is not working, at least the ChangeUSB.exe in the Windows directory gives you the opportunity. As I remeber you need to decide if you want access from Windows(XP) Explorer to the flash-rom or ActiveSync and as it uses the same USB-Port I do believe, that only one function is possible.
But I am still unable to see any advantage in ActiveSync. As flash-drive access via USB combined with access to the WindowsCE-Explorer/Windows-CE Total-Commander and no restriction to run applications like installations, I think at the end you have the same options available.
By my understanding, what I have briefly read here, the first version of the Lucca 3.x software allowed ActiveSync access (if manually enabled via WindowsCE/changeusb.exe, ActiveSync was never ever enabled from Blaupunkt by default) but that is restricted since the update to OS1.11 (latest/current update version is OS1.12). But because I am not interested in ActiveSync, I have not taken many attention on that subject.

I am also not sure what the problem with the canceled update and the not rebooting Lucca was. There are several threads in this forum regarding unsuccessfull software updates (and not every other user was so stupid as I was and canceled it myself only to safe some minutes). For example take a look at the thread http://forum.pocketnavigation.…14378df605953ad665738.htm - the 3rd posting shows the message that also appear on my Lucca - bottom line of all these threads: you need to send in the Lucca for repair:( Especially because of this upcomming message, that does not appear fom nowhere and has to be created by a still running application (does not even looks like a simple BIOS error message), I am sure Blaupunkt is able to access the Lucca with a suitable device. At least they cut the charge for the update after I complain and mentioning, that my Lucca has no hardware problem and it looks like an easy to fix problem for a technican with the required hard- and/or software. BTW: it was the first type of Lucca, no additional naming, nothing about MP3 or Edition whatever, simply "Lucca TravelPilot":) Perhaps the flash-memory was simply locked in an update-mode and need to be reset that the already installed software is able to run.
However, as it is expensive, I am more carefull with my current Lucca 3.4:)

  • JoSch123,

Sorry I apologise if I offended you about the registry I am an engineer and keep being told by the wife and friends that they don't understand when I mention all these terms so I must explain myself.

Active sync will allow you to get to the Luccas actual Windows folder and therefore allow changes to be permanent also changes to the registry so that you can let the programs know where to find those missing drivers and directories etc which are sitting on you SD card all the time. You should also be able to put in the missing dll files into the Windows folder that the programs may need to run. So for me I have control of the machine inners and can put back anything missing to get it running again or add the additional items that cannot be done when you only have the Lucca's Flash available. That's why its important to me. I think Blaupunkt would prefer that we cannot do this.

About your Radar program was that POI Warner or POI Observer Virtcom did you ever get it working. I believe I may land up also with an early Travelpiolot so I may be able to shed some light on the subject. It has I believe a cradle to attaché to a car Radio No USB but that may be built into the cradle connector.

    AshBash

  • JoSch123,

Just after I sent the previous message I realised that couple answers was staring me in the face. Most probably why you lost your GPS on your original Lucca was that Virtcom & I believe POI Warner set up a virtual GPS port which can be shared by both the Navigation program and the POI program. So the SPGPS file and Defaults files number would have their GPS port number altered to point at this new port, so unless you put them back to the original port number no GPS signal would be detected.

Also I believe I misread your comments about Active sync not being available after version 1.10 or did I! Are you saying that it is still possible after the latest update to turn it on after total commander is installed, can you confirm that?

I have just had it confirmed that I will have a Travelpilot Lucca MP3 to look at which I believe is the very same as the Travelpilot Lucca apart from being Silver & Black with a cradle to connect it to a Car Radio with TMC. Would I be correct in that you were only supplied with a car cigarette cable and a mains charger but no connection cables for the multiway connector to connect to a computer?

So I may be able to return your kind help and help you with its safe update for Radars etc, of course only if it's safe to do so.

Thanks again for all your help

    AshBash

  • Hello Ashbach,

no problem:) I am for sure no crack and I am only able to hack into the WindowsCE using the manual and I am always astonished how people find out this solutions but I have some expirience with computers and Windows systems.

I wouldn't be so sure, that ActiveSync will give you more functionality, or as I said the possibility to run installations from within the Lucca's WinCE should give you the same options. At the end, all the flash-rom devices that I know are not able to work from the flash-rom directly (the Lucca has 512MB rom). So the operating system is copied to the RAM at startup (Lucca = 64MB RAM) creating a virtual Windows folder and so on to be able to work and of course you can modify this Windows settings and files but by default all the information is lost at shutdown and the next time you start the flash-rom device the original Windows from the rom is loaded into RAM again giving you again the possibility to make changes etc until shutdown.

Regarding my old Lucca. The software was spanish, "Programa Avisador Radares" *g* and it needed to install a virtual com device - and that was the big problem. On the first generation of Lucca you can press the menu-button at startup what boot the Lucca into a shell, where you can access the Windows CE system, so no need to "hack" the Lucca first. And the radar-software uses this way to install the cab-files of the application from the Windows CE Explorer and activate or modify this virtual com-port. It was also working fine, even if the installation claim something about missing files and to be honest it was not only for spanish systems it was also designed for the Lucca MP3 while I am having only a Lucca (but there shouldn't be much differences).
However, after installing this software and starting the navigation program from within the WinCE all works fine - until I shut down the Lucca. On the next startup, obviously some settings concerning the com-port have been changed permanently. As I already wrote: the Lucca was working, but no GPS-reception anymore. Accessing the WinCE of the Lucca and running the configuration of the virtual com-port software shows errors about missing files. Installing the radar-software again gives me the option to configure the radar and virtual com-port settings again successfull and also no problem to run the Lucca navigator software afterwards from within the WinCE - all was fine again, including radar warning - until I shut down the Lucca because after restarting it ends up in the same problem as before.
First I also thought no problem, run the Lucca software installation again to reset the Lucca to defaults, but unfortunately, even after successfull installation of the ROM and additional files, the problem remain - tried several times. And at one point, fogotten to remove the SD-card, I simply removed it while the software was copied to the Lucca (not the ROM update, the shorter update afterwards). I have never expected that this will end in a unusable Lucca, at least I thought I will be able to access the Windows CE and copy the files manually if neccessary but that was a mistake which costs me 60 Euro for the repair.
And you are right, the first generations of Lucca have no USB port but a SD-card slot of course (max.2GB) and also a connector for a cradle (I do not have that cradle) which gives you options to connect it to car audio system somehow. I also believe the first Lucca is able to handle TMC messages - if delivered from a car-radio via the cradle or it can be used to monitor the cars speed, so if you are in a large tunnel with no GPS reception the navigation is still working showing your location calculated by the cars speed.

PS: yes, I can for sure confirm, that the "changeusb.exe" of the current Lucca 3.4 software (OS1.12) gives you the option to enable ActiveSync - the look of the tool is exactly as in former OS version :) but I also said I have read, that ActiveSync is not working anymore, regardless if you enable it or not. But I have not read that enabling ActiveSync has damaged the device, so you should give it a try and see if ActiveSync is able to establish a connection from you PC

  • Hi

Yes the virtcom writes a config file into the windows directory so if the registry points to the virtual windows directory it would disapear on turn off. Maybe the update did not replace the ini files!! for some reason. No I have just rememberd I think you always have to start up the virtcom to output each time you used it I know I used to put it in my startup folder when I had Navigon 4 and if it was still present it could load the port so no output would be present, I will just have to test that out on my old BM 6300 when I have time as I cannot remember exactly, The old grey matter as I get older forgets.

So am I correct to say you can still activate the Active Sync with this latest update you did not say but your comments seem to suggest it did could you confirm?

I would also not be surprised if the multiway cradle connector in you old Lucca, That the TMC input was in fact a USB connection.

  • Hi

I just refreshed my page to see if there was any reply and where you previous message ended with (calculated by the cars speed.) suddenly a PS. has appeared with the answer to my question about the active sync.

I just love Microsoft a love hate operating system.

I thankyou for all your help and will let you know some answers when it all arrives.
