about Battery

  • Hi

There's no indication time about the necessary time of charge of Becker 7934 when connected on PC (usb cable).

I think USB comes with 500mA (car cable with 1A) so the time is longer (IMPORTANT is 5V)...but I don't know about the correct one??

How long does it take to recharge from USB ? 1 hour? 2 hour? ?(

If 7934 remains connected via USB ...would the battery lost his charging power from time to time?

Now I think operative time for becker 7934 is 1,5 or 2 hours ( are you agree?? )...could it lost his operative battery time?
Will be possible to change with a NEW battery?

When you are in the CAR is it better take 7934 with is battery power or take IT connected with carPowerCable??? ?(

CarPowerCable is just a powering one or a recharging one ?

BATTERY is divided in 3 part ...each 33% of charge power.
The first part (to 66%) is fast to go
The second part (to 33%) stay a little more
The third part (to 0%)....what about this one???

Is there a security AUTOturning OFF ?? I have heard that if you unload all BATTERY power you can lose all applications you HAVE INSTALLED on your device :( ?? even "My flash" and Windows directory (ROM) ???? ?( :(
    I'M a little scared

    Thanks
    :)

  • I Have tried at home to run 7934 till the last part of battery level ...from 33% to 0%.....duration good.

I was out from becker's shell...in particular I was In I-G-O-3-D :D...and magically a becker window came out...."battery level at minimum"

So I see that there is a WARNING....THIS IS GOOD!!
But I don't know how much operativity is left....and if this warning will come out even without starting at BOOT up the original becker's shell ??? ?(

May be it is a message related with battery monitor....but if you don't start the original shell (and its running programs) will be there this same advice? ?(

PS...anyone knows if is it possible to lunch "becker's SETTING " windows as a stand alone window ??? in particular about battery monitor & mode lights..any direct exe to run them?

Normally not... if the unit is in stand-by it normally should be charged all the time.

In my opinion the operating time is up to 2-3 hrs.
Of course.. every battery is losing capacity after a while. I think you can't change the battery, cause the battery is integrated directly.

What a question... connected - This is the reason why you get the cigar jack in scope of delivery!

    A recharging one!

There is no reason to be scared!
The device shuts down when the battery-charge is to low.
Your SD can't be deleted then, because it's no volatile storage. In cause of this there is no chip-refresh needed. :)

The integrated battery is a lithium-ion type.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery

That means nearly no memory-effect, long life-time and so on.

  • I Think BATTERYMONITOR.exe is the program from Becker that controls the battery and gives advice when to recharge....so it could run as a stand alone application, infact in the taskmanger is active.

The store clerk said that wuold be better not to take it connected with CarCable but let it operate with its proper battery....but CarCable can manage long trip....maybe from time to time, taking connected with CarCable caused the battery will reduce its operative power...even if with Lithium there is no memory-left..... by me, it's a controversial ?(

1.) The monitor shows you the load of the battery. The device has it's own charge-electronics.
If the monitor would be responsible, the device only could getting loaded when activeated/not in standby/ power on.

2.) The store jerk is really informed. Sry, but it's really nonsense!
Take a look at wikipedia. There you can read that a li-io batt. has (nearly) NO memory-effekt. Less than a ni-mh batt!
You can use your navi with the car-plug every time you drive/use the navi.
    It doesn't take care.

The only thing to "destroy" the battery is temperature/heat!
Experts said, it's better to store Li-Io at 0°C or less.
But all of this you can look up in the wiki ;)

I know that Batterymonitor.exe is a running program that show me the state of the battery...so if this "exe" will not running I could not have information about it....only if I'll use another taskmanager I could see it again.

I 'm referring about the advice " Alert, battery status too low " in becker stilish window....I think this message could only apper if batterymonitor.exe (original from becker) is running in backgroud....so it is SAFE to let it running :)

Nobody is perfect ;) maybe except all "pimping" guys in this forum :D :D

This month I have connect USB-PC my Becker to PIMP it so many time...happy to know that this will not compromise battery

So...when can say that if you are in car is better to HAVE it connected by its own CarCable ?!...just to have no charging down problem...right?

    WHAT about :

    1) How long does it take to recharge from USB-PC ? 1 hour? 2 hour? ...how can I see if recharging is complete? ...disconnect USB and start battery info is a way...but too manual

    2) external 230V plug-in ???...can I use one from my portable mp3player ??? which characteristics must have ?.....I think always OUTPUT 5 V !! but what about Ampere ? ....using a 300mA , 500mA, 1A , 2A ??? what about these values?

    Thanks
    :)

  • The monitor shows you the battery status. no more.
I think it's getting started when you go under settings to energie
There you can see these status. My device is in german, so I just don't know the correct translation. :)
    [Blockierte Grafik: http://img408.imageshack.us/im…59/shhbiconbatteryly3.png]

Every software has it's own monitor, so why do you asking so particular? ?(

Just try: delete the batterymonitor.exe and click the button unter settings, or option... don't know.
Then you will see what I mean. :) (Nothing happends!)

Every USB device needs 5V supply-voltage. It's USB standard!
    A normal USB-connector has 5V and 500mA. More a USB-connector can't deliver.

The car-plug has 5V/1A. This is because in use the 7934 needs more current.

    That implies:
    - Connected via USB: 500mA charging rate
    - " by car plug: 1A operating/charging current

    Check out this thread:
    http://forum.pocketnavigation.de/tid1100368-sid.htm

    there you'll find this:
    [Blockierte Grafik: http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/7424/ka00039748abbzc6.jpg]
With this plug you can reach 1A on USB :)

    Explanation:
The devices takes the current that's needed to work. If there is too little current, the device can't work correctly.
For normal operations like copy files, resp. pimp your device, 500mA are sufficient.
Navigating, that means processor time and so on, with speech and what else... there is more needed, so 1A.

You can use the device in navigation-mode about 2-3 hours.

Are there any more questions? :D

  • I think, the worst power consumer is the TFT-Display.

Normal 3,5"-TFTs consumes about 3 - 5W max with full backlight on.

Good TFTs with new technologies have reduced power consumption. (expensive )

My recommendation: When connected to PC-USB pull down brightness.

  • :D THANX to all :D

    Ok other questions ;)

    1) How long does it take to recharge from USB-PC ? 1 hour? 2 hour?

    2) using an external 230V plug-in output 5V 300mA....(as said IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE 5V ).... could recharge it or 300mA is too low Ampere?

    Thanks as always :)

  • Okay, once more cause I think you don't understand all of my text. ;)

USB delivers 500mA. This is enough for charging the device and use it for a lil' data transfer.
Please take a look at this thread:

Display für 7934 - Information Akku mit Foto!
Picture of the naked device :D http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8638/attachmentqt9.jpg

The battery is a 1230mAh. With this detail you can calculate the recharging time. :)
    Good idea, or? :gap

  • Thanks Jake :)

Sometimes it 's a bit hard for me understand in german ( and this is the better BECKER forum on the net, maybe cause the guys are OK ;D ), cause web-translation is not so good...ita would be perfect but en is nice :) ...but found many good guys writing in english too :D ;) THANKS to ALL

I'm not sure but I've in mind this way....

    1230 mAh ...battery
    500 mA ... USB power

    1230 / 500 = 2,46 ..... correct ? 2 hours and 46 minutes for a complete recharge ??

PS. WOW sexy naked 7934 ;D ...so could be possible to change battery...anyone found the better one size\model compatible 3,7V 1230mAh ?

  • The charge time of most lithium-ion batteries is about 3 hours, if the charge current is 1C
( The C-rate is a unit by which charge and discharge currents are scaled. A charge current of 1000mAh, or 1C, will charge a 1000mAh battery in slightly more than one hour. A 1C discharge lasts one hour)
Full charge is attained after the voltage threshold has been reached and the current has dropped to 3% of the rated current or has leveled off.

    read this

    For 7934 it seems, that the charge current is 0.8C (1.23A *0.8 = 1A )

This means, that charging over PC-USB ( 500mA max) is ineffectively and
the PC-USB-Interface is working hard with full load.

Thanks Rollo :) WOW Disussion reachs ALL technical words....

I suspect such a way cause the first part of charge (100% to 66%), as my opinion, is too fast to go away.

Using an AC adapter 230V, ex with on one side the CarCable jack (or the 1A USB cable-PC from Jake2kone), it recharges the battery in less time ( more current 1A vs 500A ) and lets reach the full load.
