Hallo liebe R66 Chicago user.
Dear R66 support team and developers,
have been using a R66 Chicago 9000 for a little while now and I am impressed how nice the unit functions. Running latest firmware x.x.3200 on it. I have a few suffestions (complains?) for you:
The text size (here in Belgium) is way to small for smaller/midsize villages/cities. You can see that in the enclosed pictures. Even though my unit is dashmounted I really have problems reading the name of a village/town passing through and that independent of the zoomscale
SUGGESTION: Enhance textsize by +1/+2 and make it bold.
The textsize of named streets also being to small.
SUGGESTION: Enhance textsize by +1
The unit shows way to thick streets in its 3D mode which makes it kind of jumping into the eye yet making it more difficult to get the overal view.
SUGGESTION: Make local streets a tad smaller (only in 3D mode)
The unit shows driving sense only up to 300m scale and then will switch to North Up direction which I personally find not so good. As well with North up the GPS indicator will travel until the end of the screen and then the screen resets so the GPS location is again centered. Highly disturbing...
SUGGESTION 1: Make the user to decide after what scale (e.g. 1km/5km/10km etc.) North up wanted or not.
SUGGESTION 2: Fix the GPS locator in the middle screen with North up. The unit has enough power to keep up with the moving map (MIO has it very nicely implemented)
As you are using a color for the inside of a street and the boundaries of a street I find the boundary to thick a line so once one has a route planned and using a scale of 300m and up the route ahead is hard to distinguish
from the surroundings. Here again MIO shows how to do it with MioMap.
SUGGSTION: Make the street boundary line as thin as possible and increase the inner thickness a little.
Now I do not want to come by as one who complains all time and in the end a few laurels for you. The unit is rock stable. Have not encountered a crash yet.even after one failed firmware upgrade I was able to recover with original SD backup and re upgrade to latest firmware. Routing logic is quite ok and the trackassistance is quite handy. Oh and manual blocking of a street (see TomTom) should be easy to implement (Not every roadblock is being handled by TMC) Further the unit is able to play back Divx quite good with TCPMP. Should be easy to integrate this into ROM instead of having to use another card for it and having to reboot Chicago in a special way to unlock WinCE which should be not such a miracle after WinCE being out for so long.
Anyway that not so much of concern as I mainly use the unit for navigational purposes and I find your unit quite nice. A few ironing outs of flaws and voila a killer unit you have.
Best regards,
Wendel L.
