Problem with 7988

  • Dear All,

    Let me first introduce myself. My name is Mariusz, I'm living in Poland and I own Becker HighSpeed II (model 7988). I will be writing in English as unfortunatelly I'd know German language :(

    The reason of my post is a problem I have with my 7988 and the fact that German phorum is probably the best place to get a help with respect to Becker equipment. So, let's start:

    I've used my stuff in Poland and everything work perfectly for certain time. The problem started when I've gone to France two weeks ago. Travelling
    through Switzerland I've noticed that my Becker has a problem with finding its position on the map each time I was leaving out from mountain tunnel. On the beginning it took a minute or so to proprly find a position but when we reached France then Becker "gone crazy" and chages its position on the map each 5 seconds. I've restarted it but it did not help. Then I've tried to switch to factory settings and the result was the same. Finally I've made hard reset twice and after second reset following beautifull blue screen appeared:

    Utool S200F_F R03

    0=WINCE Upgrade
    1=UBOOT Upgrade
    2=BT Test
    3=Other Tools
    Choice: 0

    Friend of mine told me that what probably happened is problem with ROM and download of ROM would help.

    I wonder if any of you had such problem and if so, how the problem was solved. If any of you have an access to ROM to this device and could send it to me - it would be perfect.

    Best Regards,
    Mariusz

  • hi mariusz,

    if you see this blue screen, you may have accidentially pushed the reset-button AND switched on the device at the same time. only if those two buttons/switches are pushed at the same time, this screen comes up.

    is your device booting normally? or have you played around in this 'dangerous blue menu' and deleted/formatted something? if so, what?

    regards, marc

  • Hi,

    Thanks for reply. It may happen that pushed these two buttons in the same time. The point is that if I now try to switch device on - using front button or side button - I see the same screen - service screen. What comes to my mind is that reset button doesn't work properly and it is in permanent ON position - this would explain why I cannot leave service menu.

    Originally I used a pencil to push hard reset button and now when I try to push hard reset button again using a pin for that purpose I do not feel it works. It seems to me that I'm permanently in service mode and the question is how I can quite.

    Do you thing it might be a hard reset button issue?

    Regards,
    Mariusz

  • hi,

    it may be that the button is sort of stuck in the slot. you don´t feel any resistance anymore while pushing it? typically, there´s got to be a very gentle 'click'-like resistance.

    if not, you may have to open the enclosure, measure the pushbutton´s function etc.

    ...or, of course, send it to Becker and pay for it. ;)

    regards...

  • Marc,

    Thanks for your tip of how to get into service menu (pushing reset button and power button together). I checked reset button and it was in permanent ON position.......

    Now, I've replaced it and have typical screen again.

    Many thanks once again & best regards,
    Mariusz
