I have had some problems for 3 months with my 5500.
Some days the map does not load and the 5500 freezes and resets sometimes.
Then the 5500 works perfectly several days and freezes again.
I have asked new map DVD, even install the MO 5597; still the same problem.
Do you have any suggestions ?
Do you presently have the 5595 loaded, not the 5595SR?
The 5597 still may have some problems, you better take the latest release, i.e. the 5598.
As to the freezing, when does this occur? At start-up, or during the normal navigation? Or at the change of screen presentation and/or scale?
I went back to 5595.

Are you sure that the contact-plus is not interrupted when you start the engine? In many cars this interruption is done on purpose to reducing the burden on the battery, also the radio will stop then.
However, the navigationcomputer is then interrupted during its start-up as well, which it does not like 
See also the installation instructions stating that A7 shall be connected to +12V switched, "must not be interrupted during engine start".

The problem first appeared after a repair made on my Renault Espace 4 which consisted in replacing the main car command unit (replacement ordered by the factory).
Sometimes, the 5500 starts building the map and takes a long time (up to several minutes) and sometimes it freezes then.
