Ford DVD Navigation System

    Greetings from UK!!

Sorry about my german, i am using an on-line translator!

Please can you guys help me? I'm getting myself a New 2004 Mondeo LX soon and want to fit the DVD touch-screen Navigation system. I have got a touchscreen control unit but am unsure as to what else i need. I know what to expect because i fitted a VNR9000 unit to my old Mondeo which has worked very well! When i fitted that it simply just plugged in with the navigation ariel and i was away. Am i to expect the same to happen with this new DVD unit?? I have a number of questions i would like if you could answer:

    1) Does the navigation DVD run IN the unit like on the vnr9000 or do you need a seperate DVD reading unit?

    2) Can i use my existing Navtech CD map from the VNR9000 to run the DVD touchscreen?

    3) Have any of you guys actually fitted a DVD touchscreen to your car like i am planning to do and can maybe give me some help?

If you have any help please could you e-mail me on the following address:

Surely someone out there must be able to help me?

  • Hi Steve,

let me try to answer your questions. I recently bought a Mondeo with DVD system in it.

There is a separate DVD rom drive in the locker, which takes a bit of the space there. But you can continue to listen to MP3 songs while it is navigating.

I am not sure if you can use the old DVD (just try it). An initial DVD is delivered with the system if you buy it.

What I would do after purchasing is to check the software version; and insist on free of charge updates from your dealer.
Check the version: Press Menu for 10 seconds, then enter 6414 as pin number. You might find 0.54 as version.

Besides that, I like my DVD nav very much. There are some minor bugs in it, buy you can survive that. It´s also your choice to buy also a hands free for your mobile (400 Eur in Germany) or build in an own one.

    Regards,
    Volker
PS: The direct translation is quite funny :)

(1930 EURO!)

    Kann jemand helfen???

    ----

Does anyone know where i can get hold of one of the DVD navi players from (apart from ford!)

If i want to buy one from Ford they want £1300!! (1930 EURO!)

    Can anyone help???

  • Hi Steve,

Just get a new Mondeo ... The new system won't fit properly, neither mechanically, nor electronically. You won't even get the speed signal to the Nav, and the system won't really work without.

Just wondering ... if you find the DVD drive to expensive, which truck did your display fall off??

    Cheers,

    Tomtom

  • HI Tom Tom!

That's the thing my friend! I am getting a new mondeo soon but i'm not buying it, my company is, unfortunately they are too tight to buy me the Sat Nav system!

In my current mondeo Mk2 i've got a VNR9000 system which works very well but fordhave now changed the dash! :(

This is why i am trying to source a new DVD touch screen for my new mondeo which is arriving soon?

Unfortunatley the truck i got the display off did not have any of the dvd players!!!

Surely i'm just one of the first guys to try and retro fit a new navi system to the new mondeo? Many of you have fitted the VNR9000 unit to the old mondeo?

    Thanks

    Steve
