SP2610 + Bluetooth intercom??

  • Dear GPS-bikers!

    (please appologize for this message being in English; speaking German is no problem at all; writing would be a disaster!!) ;)

    How about a GPS navigation system with integrated Bluetooth intercom??

    The message below is a press communique we will send out next week; we= a Dutch biker-specialised GPS-shop, currently developping a superb add-on for the new Garmin SP2610; making it the perfect thing for bikers. It will be availlable in Holland starting may this year; in other countries probably a few months later.

    Greetings from Notter!

    Motorcycle navigation and communication perfection: the Perfect Pilot

    The GPS Shop in Notter (the Netherlands) is expecting to have in stock before the summer of 2004 a complete navigation and communication system for use on motorcycles: the Perfect Pilot .

    The Perfect Pilot is based on the Garmin Streetpilot 2610 but offers a number of important extra features for the motorcyclist. For this purpose, an extra module is added to the Streetpilot 2610, the Perfect Cradle. BMW has already announced a similar configuration as the BMW Navigator II. However, the Perfect Pilot is another step beyond the capabilities of the BMW offering. Additionally, the Perfect Cradle will be available separately.

    The Perfect Pilot will exist in three versions:

    Perfect Pilot Red: the 2610 with an additional four buttons. The functions of these buttons will be easily programmable by the user.
    Perfect Pilot Blue: like the "Red", with the addition of Bluetooth functionality, for wireless transmission of the spoken directions to the helmet.
    Perfect Pilot Purple: like the "Blue", with the addition of an intercom based on Bluetooth technology. It will also be possible to use Bluetooth to use an MP3 player and a mobile phone.
    The GPS Shop is working with global leaders in technology for the development of the Perfect Pilot. The Perfect Pilot Purple is an unique innovation in the use of Bluetooth technology.

    The Perfect Pilot will be introduced begin February. The "red" is expected to be available in Notter from May 2004; after the summer it will also be available from other dealers. The "blue" and "purple" will follow shortly after the "red".

    The "red" is expected to cost 100 euros when purchased in Notter together with a Streetpilot 2610 motorcycle package. This reduced price is also applicable when it can be proved that a Streetpilot 2610 was bought earlier in Notter by showing the invoice. The recommended retail price of a separate Perfect cradle will depend on the type, and will lie between 250 and 1000 euros. At a later stage the Perfect cradle Purple will also be available as a separate Bluetooth intercom system.

    Background;

    The Garmin GPS Shop originated from our motorcycling hobby, and started out as a importer / dealer of motorcycle intercom systems. Early 1998 GPS navigation was added to the range. Nowadays the GPS Shop is market leader in mobile navigation systems, still operating from the rustic environment in Notter, situated in Twente, a region in the east of the Netherlands. "Notter" has become a well-known term amongst motorcyclists.

    When Garmin announced the Streetpilot 2610 at the end of 2003, "Notter" soon realized that some of the deficiencies of the amongst motorcyclists famous Streetpilot III were now fixed. Amongst other things, the Streetpilot 2610 has a faster processor and more map memory. Basically, it is almost perfect... except operating the unit when riding: with gloves, the touchscreen isn't very handy. Also, more and more people wanted extras such as using it with an intercom.

    For the GPS Shop, this was the signal to start development of an additional unit that converts the 2610 into the ultimate navigation and communications device for the motorcyclist: the Perfect cradle. In combination with the Streetpilot 2610, this results in the Perfect Pilot.
