Radioempfang problem - Traffic Pro High Speed

  • Hello, first of all I'd like to appologise for writting this post in English. I do understand German good but writing is still something I will have to improve... please feel free to answer in German. I would really appreciate if you could give me an advice what may be wrong...

I have the following problem with my Becker. After installing it into Audi A4 Avant Yr2003 (no additional adapters were used) everything worked perfectly for about 2 months... but few days ago I experienced problems with receiving radio stations. After driving for approximately 30km Radio started to loose station after station. At the end even local ones dissapeared from the Radio screen ?( Same on the MW and LW Radio bands. Trying to find any by searching them manually did not help as well ?! CD and Navisystem were working ok all the time.

Next morning the same thing happened... Radio worked ok again but after I drowe approx. 30km it lost all Radio stations X( Since then I realised something must be wrong and I can not blame bad weather for this behaviour...

Has anyone else experienced similar things before? I kindly ask you to advice what may be wrong?

    Thank you, Marko

  • Hi Marko,

I guess you haven't installed an adapter for a so called Phantomspeisung?

You need this kind of adapter to source your antenna amplifier with +12V via the coax.

here is a link for such an adapter: Adapter

  • Herbert, thank you for suggestion. I have this adapter installed... it was shipped together with the car.

Strange thing is Radio worked perfectly for two months... described problems started only few days ago... ?(
the story is all the time the same i.e. after driving 30km Radio gets dead... and later if the car's engine is off for 1 hour or so... Radio begins to work again?!
    Strange???

  • Hi Marko,

my suggestion for the adapter was because I had a similar effect with my JVC, radio worked perfectly for a couple of month an than suddenly, no radio reception any more. It was the missing adapter, after installation everything was fine again. Obviously there was somehow a sourcing of the antenna-amp. directly by my JVC, which diapered after month

However, since you have your adapter installed, did your ever try to measure the pin 5 on the black ISO plug, just to be sure that antenna-amp sourcing works well from your Becker? Possibly its a thermal problem, that after radio runs for a while the +12V disappears from PIN 5?

An other test would be to connect a different antenna, or even only a 20cm piece of wire directly to the antenna input of the Becker. In case, you have better radio reception, you could assume that there is something wrong with your car antenna or the build in amplifier

  • Herbert, thank you for advice - appreciate it! I'll get radio checked at repair shop next week as you suggested. Will let you know the outcome...

    regards Marko

  • Hello Herbert, I go my Becker back from the repair shop today. They have replaced "GPS Empfänger Netzteil" which obviously supplies the power to radio receiver as well.

Radio is back to normal again... hopefully it stays like this?!

    regards Marko

  • Hi Marko,

thanks for your feedback. Fortunately they found the problem, but interesting to know that GPS and Radio antenna are supplied by same source. So in this case you should have had also problems when receiving GPS Satellites?

Well, I cross fingers that there is no further fault on your Becker

  • After almost a year has passed... my 7820 goes back to the service again! I am back to the same problem i.e. radio receiver stops working after approximately 1 hour dive (CD and GPS are ok) X( Last time they have changed Nezteil... which obviously did not last long?!

    Anyone experienced similar problem?

Sorry dear BECKER this is what I have not expected for the car-radio in this price range!!!
