AUDI A3 8P and kleine navi

  • Hi GEO24.de ^^

First of all sorry for my poor english '_' and i don't speak german :((((

I've order a new Audi A3 (2.0TDI 8P) with Concert II radio and BOSE sound system with NAVI (not plus+, it isn't available) Navi is a Satellite navigation system (Route planning and guidance using voice and pictogram instructions. Includes Drivers Information System (DIS) and Teleatlas CD-ROM disc)

well... can I change ConcertII radio with a Clarion product?

If I change ConcertII with other non audi radio... I lost NAVI function and link with car?

    Thanks in advanced
    Best regards

  • Hallo Ermu,

your inquiry is not quite clear. Let us repeat what you tried to describe:
    1. You ordered a new Audi A 3 with factory-installed Radio "concert" (made by Blaupunkt)
    2. You also ordered the small navigation system, which gives voice guidance and which shows directional arrows in the area between the two round instrument in the dashboard. (There is no color navigation monitor installed.)
This navigation system uses Teleatlas/Blaupunkt CD (for Germany? )and it uses TMC Codes for dynamic routing.

If the above is correct then we can address your actual question.

If we understand you correctly, you would like to replace the factory-installed radio "concert" with another radio made by Clarion. Is that correct?

Why do you want to replace the "concert" Radio?

It is suggested that you contact your local Audi dealer to determine if such a change is possible. It can be assumed that you loose at least the TMC feature but it also might be impossible to change because of CAN bus technology. This could possibly jeopardize your car warranty.

If you have further questions or if we did not understand you correctly please do not hesitate to write again.

  • hi mazi
thanks for your fast reply :)

sorry for my english, it's not good... and unfortunately i do not speak german :(

    by the way...

I have ordered a new Audi A3 with factory-installed Radio "concert2" and I also ordered the small navigation system, which gives voice guidance and which shows directional arrows in the area between the two round instrument in the dashboard. (There is no color navigation monitor installed.)
This navigation system uses Teleatlas/Blaupunkt CD (for ITaly )and it uses TMC Codes for dynamic routing.

I want to replace the original audi "concert" Radio with a Clarion VRX928RVD

If I replace audi radio with Clarion, the small navigation system it will work without CONCERT2?

    Best regards, greetings from Italy

  • Hallo Ermanno,
the Audi A3 is a very new model and I suggest that you contact your Audi dealer to find out if you can replace the "concert" with another radio. It is quite possible that this might cause problems with other functions of the car because of the interconnecting of the electronic circuitry. Please make sure that you do not loose your warranty (guaranty) if you do any unauthorized changes.
Also, I do not know if the new Audi A3 still uses the standard DIN slot or if Audi also goes the same route as VW with the new Touran. It does not have a DIN slot anymore.
You also need to check the Blaupunkt navigation computer to see if he gets the TMC input from a separate TMC decoder or if he gets the TMC signals from the "concert" radio. If he gets it from the "concert" then you would loose the dynamic TMC routing when replacing the "concert" and you would need a suitable Blaupunkt TMC decoder if you are interested maintaining that TMC feature.
I do not know if there are other features that you would loose when replacing the "concert".
If you had in mind to also use the Clarion navigation computer NAX9500E and connect it to the VRX928RVD then be aware that the Clarion navigation system does and will not not use TMC codes with their CD-system. The new CD 2.5 for Italy will be available soon.
Maybe you should consider a "stand-alone" approach (separate DVD player with separate monitor) so that the "concert" can remain unchanged.
    Good luck
