Installation
------------

**NOTE - Your phone must be application unlocked for this software to work. Please visit
www.modaco.com and search the forums their for details and help on how to achieve this with
your device**

**NOTE - Please remove ALL old versions of the OpenNETCF framework that you may already have
installed on your phone. Whilst you can install multiple version of OpenNETCF framework, we have
seen compatibility problems with this. New versions of OpenNETCF framework will be backwards
compatible, so there shouldnt really be any need to keep old versions installed**

SmartGPS requires OpenNETCF v1.4 (orlater) to be installed. A version of this is included in
this archive for convenience, but please see www.opennetcf.org if you need further information.
If you already have this installed, but have problems, you may need to uninstall your current
version, and install a later version. **This must be installed to the phone, not a memory card!**

Once OpenNETCF is installed, simple copy the SmartGPS.exe to your phone, create a shortcut to
it if required, and you're ready to go.

Configuration
-------------

**NOTE - If you're using a Bluetooth GPS receiver, please ensure it's properly connected and
communicating with your phone before starting SmartGPS.**

**I've noticed a problem on my C500 and BT77 GPS device where they will only communicate
after a successful pairing. If either the phone or GPS device is then turned off and back on
again, the only way to get them communicating again is to delete the pairing, and re-pair the
devices. The solution to this was to make sure that the 'secure connection' tickbox that is
available when adding a new COM port IS NOT CHECKED! This fixes issues with several GPS units
which manifest themselves in different ways, from simply not connecting to locking up the
application in severe cases**

If you plan on using a Bluetooth GPS unit, please ensure to create a outgoing COM port after
you'vepaired your device (menu -> com ports -> menu - > new outgoing port from within the
Bluetooth setup screen). Note, that if you have to remove your pairing, this COM port config will
also be removed, and will need to be recreated. **IF GIVEN THE OPTION, DO NOT USE A SECURE
CONNECTION!**

Whether your GPS device is Bluetooth or not, all you need to do when you start SmartGPS is
select the correct COM port for your unit, and the baud rate. Once you click 'done' the
application will then attempt to connect to your hardware.

On the main screen, a small dot should start flashing in the top right hand corner as data
is received. If this is not flashing, then SmartGPS is not receiving any data on the chosen
COM port. Please recheck your settings, and your Bluetooth config if applicable.

On the settings screen, you can choose your preferred unit of measurement (Miles per hour
or Kilometers per hour). In addition, you can select how bright SmartGPS should keep the display
while in use. Normal should be ok for most scenarios, and will be easier on your battery, but
Max can be used if you need a brighter screen for any reason.

Use the 'Reset' option to clear the current maximum speed.

Known Issues
------------

There are some reports that SmartGPS, along with some other applications, have problems connecting
to Bluetooth devices on MPx220 phones. Currently, if you are unlucky enough to have these
problems, there doesnt appear to be a workaround at present. If a solution, or cause for this
problem on some MPx220 devices can be found, then we will publish an updated version of SmartGPS
if a software change is required. If it's a firmware problem with the phone, then an update to that
should be sufficient to get you up and running once an update is released. As always, please visit
smartphone.maxrom.com for updates.
