What is GPS?

Global Positioning System (GPS) consists of a constellation of 24 satellites that lie in non- geosynchronous orbits approximately 20,180 km above the Earth.

The satellites orbit the Earth once every 12 hours, and broadcast their own unique navigation and identification signals.

The GPS antenna/ receiver connected to your Pocket PC acquires these navigational signals and satellite data. The antenna/ receiver uses this information and synchronizes its knowledge of current time to compute your current latitude, longitude, altitude and speed.

A minimum of 4 GPS satellite signals are needed to determine current GPS position. When the vehicle’s latitude, longitude, altitude and speed are applied to geophysical maps, the location and speed of a vehicle can be determined quite accurately. Your current position, is updated once per second.
